I have lunch recess duty on Fridays. It’s been cloudy and grey all day, so when we went out for lunch recess, dark, bulbous clouds greeted us. It hadn’t rained yet today, so I didn’t think much about it.
After about 10 minutes, it started to rain just a little bit, not anything to get fussed about.
Then, it started to rain a little harder, and the teachers moved under the awning so as not to get wet. The rain never bothers the students as much as it bothers the teachers, so we didn’t think it was that big of a deal. We even joked with a student about how we didn’t feel any rain at all.
Well, then it started to pour. We all rain to the door, desperate to escape the sudden deluge. We ended up having a noisy, rambunctious indoor recess. The din of the pounding rain on the roof added to the cacophony.
And now, 10 minutes after the end of recess, it’s not even raining. Typical.
I know these days so well! It always stops right as recess is over…

This is such a typical elementary recess scenario, only elementary teachers would appreciate and relate. Loved your word choice in your second to last paragraph, matches the scene perfectly.
